How the Storyboarding Process Works

The storyboard writing process works in 5 steps:

Step 1, We define the specs of your package, which is either my standard package or a custom package that we refine and agree on through a discovery meeting.

Step 2, You pay for your standard package in full or for your custom package according to the terms on which we agree.

Step 3, After I receive your payment, I’ll arrange for an interview where I’ll collect facts, or I’ll send an electronic request for information, to which you’ll respond. We will iterate on this requested-and-received information cycle until I have the facts I need to start creating.

Step 4, I deliver a draft piece to you electronically, per our pre-arranged timeline; you provide notes; and I incorporate your notes. We will iterate on this notes-provided-and-incorporated cycle until the storyboard is approved.

Step 5, I deliver all final files to you. If applicable, you pay any remaining balance due.

This package contains the following specs:

  • Advice on developing up to a 3-minute story arc

  • Drafting up to 3 visual concepts for consideration

  • Written report containing the following:

    • Addresses: Physical address of on-site scenes

    • Descriptions: Description of each scene

    • Stakeholders: Names and contact info for all stakeholders

    • Idea parking lot: Parking lot for WIP ideas and general to-dos

    • Defined terms to eliminate jargon for all stakeholders

    • Outline of each scene, including, but not limited to, the following:

      • Time tracking

      • Transitions in/out

      • Action description

      • People/equipment/staging needed, e.g., drone shot above moving company vehicle, still shot in office, tracking shot in warehouse, image-stabilized gimbal shot of 360-degree WIP, etc.

      • Performance direction comments

      • To-dos to capture all scene-specific action items

  • Ready merging (if applicable) of storyboarding specs with voiceover

    Note: Although storyboarding can stand alone, consider amplifying its effects by pairing it with my Voiceover Scripts service.

  • SEO recommendations for post-production

  • 1 client-side subject matter expert (SME) who will provide facts and answer questions either in a live interview or through electronic communication

  • 1 client-side point-of-contact, who will typically be the decision-maker/owner of this creative and may be (but is not required to be) the same person as the SME

  • Work-for-hire rights, meaning after you pay for this creative, you are considered to be the author/publisher and may do anything with it that you like, with one express grant: After accounting for any restrictions on confidential information that may be in force, you grant me the right to refer to this project in my portfolio.
